Concentration Overkill
Have you ever found yourself straining your mind to find a solution problem, or find that it seems to become a “mission impossible” task that just has you stumped and you’re ready to pull your hair out of your head.
You experience fragments were you think you have the idea but it is still somewhat a blur, you quickly lose interest into the task that you were trying to complete and become frustrated but you stop yourself and decide that you will die trying *not literally of course LOL to find the answer to the problem.
Well there is a such thing as stepping over the line or taking things to far, this is classified as compulsive behavior and the weird thing about this behavior is that many people do not recognize that they are acting out the behavior –.
I can give an example that holds weight to what I just said, I was watching a documentary that focused on Nikola Tesla and there was a scene in the movie that caught my attention right away with a compulsive habit Tesla – . Tesla was what you would call a “clean freak” type of guy, he had a need to wash his hands after performing any task within a very, very, short time interval. Try a minute or two…
Don’t get me wrong I definitely agree you should wash your hands after performing chores, or before going on a lunch break at your job, especially after using the bathroom, however in his case it was weird.
I share on twitter about this documentary for people to check out, and there is a scene where Tesla is at dinner with the famous George Westinghouse who would eventually go on to create and become founder of his company “Westinghouse Electric” back in 1889.
Westinghouse like many others found Tesla to be rather eccentric, distant from others, and certainly not the barer of a friendly handshake to anyone. I couldn’t blame him of course, the man had tremendous talent and was very careful around those he felt would take total advantage of him.
Tesla would dive into total concentration no matter who is talking to him, anyone who sets out to critique him about his inventions (he really didn’t give a rat’s ass about anybody’s opinion), and most importantly he would stick to an invention that he was creating until he finish the project first.
His major downfall however was his ability to concentrate, I don’t mean it in the sense that he was an idiot or had issues of ADHD.
Not by far.
He just didn’t know how to loosen up a little, and try to enjoy life a little more.
He was just so obsessed to be the man who would give people “free energy”,that what he was really all about in a nutshell and Westinghouse knew this.
T. Edison however did not share Tesla’s vision, he would be the man to antagonise Tesla’s patience at every turn.
Tesla had that “killer concentration demeanor” that could not be matched even by Thomas Edison, that just goes to show how deeply determined a person such as Tesla was but you have to wonder with this “lazer-like” focus that he relied upon so heavily was in fact secretly killing him deep within.
Concentration Overkill: Multitasking Is A Biotch!
The thing missing in the technology age today is fairly easy to notice, give a person a smart phone and see what happens?
Simple… You now have a person totally in tune with the contents of the phone, the accessories that come with it from it cardboard packaging, and let’s no forget to mention when they take the final step to activate the phone jumping on the http://www.________@.com you (yea I could have filled in the blanks but that would be too easy so just think of a domain address already LOL).
The reason people are so distracted, so concentrated on what they hold in front of them in the “now moment” is reflected upon their surroundings or better yet their environment. You have other factors such as people seeking fame, fortune, young teens finding the compulsive need to fit into a particular group or “social click”.
The level of concentration becomes down right overwhelming, it can get to level of unbearable proportions depending on the person’s need to fit in and yes this will lead to issues such as multitasking.
So now you’re wondering what in the h**l do I mean by multitasking right?
You saying that multitasking is an issue Jaye?
How can multitasking be such an issue for me?
Well let’s look at it from this stand-point shall we…
Multitasking may seem like a great idea, it may seem like the thing to do when you have multiple projects or tasks you need to fulfill.
You even heard the old saying.
“Kill two birds with one stone?”
Of course you have, I mean who hasn’t heard the phrase before.
But hear is the sad truth about performing multiple jobs at once, and I’m not talking about juggling a pack of tennis balls while saying your –abc & 123’s– backwards.
Even so that would be a mind-binder if a person could actually do that you think?
No I’m talking about being in two places at once which is impossible, and if you’re spending half the time doing each job then you will lose your concentration trying to switch between your tasks, or trying to complete two or three projects at one once.. What happens here without the person being aware is the loss of time trying to complete multiple activities, you will start to fall behind in schedule not to mention lose your focus and concentration in the midst of it all.
Trying to keep up at that pace is nerve wrecking enough (unless you’re the Flash), so why do that to yourself in the first place? It’s just best to concentrate on the matter at hand then move onto the next task or project in the following sequence.
Concentration Overkill: Boredom Will Break You Down
It’s true because after all who likes to be bored all day?
If you said nobody then I’m sure you’re up for the nobel peace prize, well maybe not in this life time but sooner or later if you believe in reincarnation.
(Now that’s a REALLY bored student LOL)
But on a serious note, boredom can strike a person in any given moment and linger like the stench of a skunk’s chemical spray after someone has been hit. That sound extreme but it is easier to get rid of boredom than it would be to get rid of a putrid stench.
If you are performing tasks or pushing to achieve a goal but the activity is very bland and lacks excitement, you in turn will lose desire and interest that you had from the beginning when you started off into the activity.
Boredom does nothing more than set you back from completing an objective, so if you show up at a party but the music is not to your liking, or you know no one at the party…
Only thing you could do to get out that situation is to just live the party, but if it’s a bothersome chore you just can’t stand then you could mak it a point to award yourself after completing the bummer task.
Here’s a hand full of ideals you can take part in after completing a bothersome dull task:
- makes you vulnerable to distractions around you
- showing non-interest
- lethargic behavior
- negative attitude toward work activity (don’t want to do the job / task)
Doing a job or task does not mean the end of the world, keep in mind that the job will come to an end soon like everything does when you first start from the beginning. People need to realize that they are gaining more when they accomplish an obstacle, when you keep getting past them you cover more ground until you reach the desired goal.
Do yourself a favor while you’re at it, treat yourself because at the end of the day don’t you think you’re worth it?
These are small rewards such as a yummy beverage (yes you can have a soda once in a while, but know your limit with them they are the perfect silent killer of your health!)
This is a clever way to train the mind, finish a task and the small reward could be a piece of your favorite chocolate bar you receive when you’re done.
Then put it away and go for another task repeating the process again.
Before you realize it, you have finished a few tasks which is now lifted from your “to do chore list”.
A great feeling of accomplishment will help to elevate the mind, concentration will become like second nature to you and things roll along much smoother.
If you do become super bored and find that you can’t shake it off when doing a chore, then try texting a friend while completing a task.
This is where multitasking will come in handy, multitasking can serve as a boredom breaker just keep in mind that it will not help you to get a job done faster when you’re breaking your concentration but it’s just an option to finish what you started.
Concentration Overkill: Mental Disruption
It’s famous in music such as Snoop Dogg’s catch phrase…
“With my mind on my money, and my money on my mind.”
This is not a wrap contest by far LOL, but the saying holds true 110%.
It’s a given… When people are thinking about any or everything else in the world while trying to keep their concentration in check is destined for disaster.
Worrying about bills, what your kids are going to eat for lunch at school, picking the right pick 4 numbers for the lotto jackpot when you decided to go with another set of numbers instead etc., etc., ETC.
They’re all there to distract you from your goal!
If you to just write what’s on your mind then guess what, you don’t have to think about them all day!
Wow who would have guessed to jot down the problems in a journal and refer to them later, just understand that you do still have to pay a bill if it’s do on the very same day of course.
But you already knew that I’m sure.
You can also try to redirect your thoughts (focus) to other parts of your body with thought sensation, this is a form of meditation which can be done through breathing exercises.
This will help to point out stress factors that plague you, by helping to relieve the stress. I’ll leave a link for that down below if you’re interested to learn more about meditation techniques.
Concentration Overkill: Social Static Interference?
Yea it can interfere with your concentration big-time, and these are the emails, text conversations, or voice inventories (voice mail), and device tech equipment that will keep you flipping and flopping around your work schedule so do yourself a favor…
Put it on hold by setting time boundaries for yourself, it works the same for kids that don’t want to do their homework but want to go outside and play instead and are too tried to finish it later on.
Take the time first to finish priority tasks first, then take time to check your emails, answer any conversation texts, or answer any voice mails.
Doing this will help you stay on track and not get side-tracked from what you need to take care of that’s really important.
Concentration Overkill: Feeling Tired
The number one enemy destined to keep you from completing any task guaranteed can be blamed on fatigue, lack of sleep will do the following to you…
- slow-reaction time (reflexes)
- attention impaired
- loss of focus
- lethargic
Everybody sleep pattern will differ, some people can function on 5 hours of sleep while others may function better on 8.
The average amount for adults is 7 – 9 hours, that is the ample amount of time for a person to get for peak performance throughout their work day. Times may vary for some people, the early bird types might work best in the morning while others work better later on during the day or at night it just depends on the person.
Concentration Overkill: Medication hinderance & Side Effects
If you are taking medication that helps to prevent issues such as epilepsy, flu symptoms (influenza), or depression can affect your ability to concentrate. Medications that help to prevent sleep disorders, ADHD, thyroid disease, anemia, or sleep apnea can also affect your ability to stay focus then you need to contact your doctor A.S.A.P.
Other issues may manifest such as insomnia or weight gain, so ditch the ego and tell you’re doctor about it and your body will thank you for it later!
